A Book of Dreams

Through the Pink Door is an amalgamation of fantasy and semi-autobiographical narrative. Inspired by Lewis Caroll’s - Alice in Wonderland, the book plays on the notion that dreams have for eons inspired artists to create. Illustrating dreams borrowed from thirteen artists at the Budapest Artist Residency 2019, it sets about exploring the collective subconscious and the narratives it can weave.

Through the Pink Door was inspired by my time in Budapest, Hungary and the artists I met there. The title and cover concept for my artist book is a homage to the studio I worked in which lay behind a massive pink door. I equated my time in Hungary to Alice’s dreamlike escapade to Wonderland, and the Pink door to Alice’s tumble down the rabbit hole. A limited-edition of hand-bound books with unique hand-lettered covers was created during the residency period.

Made during the Budapest Artist Residency, Through the Pink Door was exhibited at the BARTR 2019 exhibition between December 5th to the 10th. The installation concept was to create a pathway of suspended dreams, through which the audience is invited to walk and interact, eventually guiding them to the end where the Pink Door lies.
